On 13 September 2025, we took part in our very first HoneyKids International School Fair. The team was excited, but a little intimidated too. After all, we were the newest and smallest school to have a booth there.
We knew from the start that we would not compete with robots, flashing lights, or corporate backdrops. Instead, we leaned into who we are: “Small, Special and Beautiful.”
Where others brought technology, we brought our beloved wooden playstand. Where others displayed tote bags and door gifts, we placed a vase of fresh, seasonal flowers on our table . Where others had backdrops of bright, smiling faces, ours was a gentle watercolour painting of trees and a boy blowing bubbles. It was understated, but it was us.
To our delight, visitors noticed. Complete strangers came up to compliment our booth set-up. One lady said, “This is so pretty! I’ve seen your school website and this feels exactly like what I saw online. I have a niece who is entering preschool, and I’ll tell my relative about your school.” Her words were music to my ears. In that moment, I felt we were truly seen.
And that is when it struck me: the meticulous thought and care we put into a school fair booth is the very same spirit we pour into our classrooms, our programmes, and even the food that we serve. When asked by a parent what makes our school unique, I shared about our signature programmes such as baking bread together, or spending time outdoors in all weather. But what I should have also said is this: Whistle Woods Schoolhouse is the outcome of years of dreaming and reimagining what early childhood education could be like in pragmatic Singapore – not too much, not too soon, but just the right experiences at the right time, allowing children to flourish as they grow.
Some parents may find confidence in big establishments that have been around a long time, but I sincerely hope there are also parents who see the value of being part of an intimate, newly formed school community – one where every child matters, is held close to our hearts, and whose individual needs are met with care and attention.
That is why, even as the smallest school at the fair, we stood tall that day. If you had missed us at the fair, not to worry – our lovely backdrop is now up in the school, and our team is always ready to welcome you for a school tour. Come visit us soon and find out more about our year-end promotion launching on 1 October 2025!
Warmly,
Eiling
